Global warming???…but it’s so cold
I am sorry but that is one of the stupidest remarks I have ever heard…though there are quite a few at the top. It is like 10 degrees outside and all I can think about is global warming or whatever you choose to call what is happening to our beautiful Mother Earth…what we are doin’ on a major scale. CRAP…I need to see what the boys are doing in our bedroom…okay, not much. Baylar is chewing on a tampon applicator (un-used out of my computer bag) and Colton is hidin’ in our blankets.
Okay, this is my take on it. How can we as a HUGE society go through life thinking’ what we do everyday, for years upon years, has no effect on our planet? That is just stupid, arrogant thinking’. Most everyone is dependent on some kind of fossil fuel and the pollution that comes with all of that is just gi-normous. Global warming isn’t just about the earth warming up, it’s about the whole implications that come with that. And cold weather is one of them. We have lived in quite a few towns and states and we have seen some very extreme weather that isn’t normal for that area.
We are in a deep freeze out there right now…in southern Oklahoma. I’ve been building’ a fire in the morning’s but the deal is it smokes pretty good at times. We need one more piece of pipe on the roof to get it over the highest point of the house to keep it from waftin’ back in. Anyhoo, I’m glad that it is freezing’ out there to kill off the bugs and crap but it does get scary when the kiddos want outside and they can’t go because they might lose a limb or finger/toe. Our last winter in eastern Idaho was bitterly cold at -70+ and the horses loved to get out during those cold nights or sometimes days (sometimes bringing the cops) and run around. Those were really fun times but nothing’ beat milkin’ my goatie in a mid June snow storm that brought 18 inch snow drifts. That was strange weather.
I can’t really keep up with the latest info on global warming or other similar theories but even if you took a little info from both sides…things are pretty scary. I think they both agree that our habits are changing the way our earth performs. And don’t even get me started on intensive farming/agriculture. Google it sometime for a rude awakening about where we get our food and what it is doing to our planet…think H1N1 or H5N1. And that kind of farming is NOT normal. It’s what our society has lead us to…gotta have it now and a whole, big bunch of it.
It is sad that our society is so infatuated with celebrities that we don’t even realize what’s happening right in our own backyards. I have noticed a new trend towards natural living but what happened to being self-suffient? What is goin’ to happen if all our luxuries are taken away…as in no plumbers, no mechanics, no grocery stores, heaven forbid no Walmarts, and all the new cars won’t work because they are so highly computerized and connected that it would take just a *push of a button* to shut down all newer cars.
I know some of you may think this is goin’ into conspiracy theory territory and maybe it is but I mean, come on!! Is Tiger Woods’ private life more important then keeping your family safe and prepared? Is how Kate Gosslin got her new hair more important info then googling self reliance? And it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I have been working towards being more self sufficient for years. And more *green*, if you will. It is becoming a novelty to be green but it’s not about buying the new *all-natural* cleaners or getting new light bulbs. It’s about a way of life that comes from the heart and soul. Wanting better for your family and making changes to see it take fruition.
When did we start taking better care of our cell phones then we do the beautiful Earth that gives us so much more? And when did we stop teaching our children that hard work pays off? This new generation is all about *gimmy-gimmy* and *I want it, so it’s mine* mentality that it truly is scary. Not to mention my generation (X) not wanting to work either. It makes me sad that we are having to raise our children in this society. Thankfully we have our homestead that is teaching many good things to them.
All it takes is one person *doing* something or learning a new way to do things to really get things rollin’. So, next time you go to google Michael Jackson or TMZ‘s new stories, how about actually googling something you could learn from??? Novel idea for sure:O)
